Spring 2009 new animes impressions

Ok, so I finally managed to try all the new animes that I planned to watch this season for at least 1 episode and here are the thoughts on them. (For FMA, I already wrote my impression on my previous post so I'll skip that) Be aware that they are really my personal opinions and so they can be biased a little too.

Basquash! was one of the series I was most anticipating along with Pandora Hearts. While the first episode was fun in its own way with some nice visuals going along, there were some elements and feeling that didn't really set right with me. Also I can already see some signs of some characters turning rather annoying and complicated. I only watched the first episode on this one but from what I've been reading from other blogs, I have a feeling I'm so gonna dislike Sela, who is supposed to be the main heroine. (...and that is a BIG problem with me when anime heroines get in my nerve. I liked her in the first episode though~)

Phantom on the other hand kept me watching. I watched first 2 episodes and I found it a lot more intriguing compare to El Cazador, which was another Bee Train series. ...and Zwei gakkoiiyo Zwei! But poor guy... I hope he and Ein get a happy ending. >_< So far both production quality and script have been solid. Definitely will keep watching this.

Valkyria Chronicles has a nice feeling in character art with the unusual sketch-ness in colours(I really liked that) and seems to have some promises in story. However,,, I just... didn't enjoy the first episode all that much.(I liked Alicia though~) I don't know whether it's because of the direction or it was because the characters were boring but I felt the whole episode to be too dragging. At least for this one, the characters are likable(even though some of them were kinda dumb) but I think this will be one of the animes that spends more than half of the series on build-up of the story, which I usually don't enjoy a lot.

Polyphonica Crimson S has a nice setting, nice characters(Gotta love Phoron x Corte pairing) and nice story and all BUT! it needs to be more interesting. The first episode started off nice but it was just getting weaker and weaker towards the end. I hope it will get better but for now, this goes to the back of the line also.

Konnichiwa Anne also known as Before Green Gables was...WAO(imitating Hibari) interesting... (I can't believe it! I thought my head was already full of otaku otaku-ism @_@) I just found the first episode to be so heartwarming and enjoyable. Anne was so adorable too. ^O^ I love the background arts also.

...and since I won't write about Pandora Hearts ep 2 in detail, I'll just make a quick review here. Wow, the 2nd episode was much better in terms of both quality and storytelling. (Not to mention that TYL! Gilbert showed up~) Alice@Kawasumi Ayako was awesome too. (I loved that BUHAHAHAHAHA LOL) I hope it will get even better~

Pandora Hearts Ep 1

(Spoilers & Fangirlism included as usual)

Well, this turns out to be better than I expected. Other than the production quality and some of the art directions, everything else seemed pretty fine. Also I instantly fell in love with its opening song. (As expected from Kajiura Yuki~ ^O^) The first episode basically followed the first chapter of the manga pretty much the same but it's always more fun with the characters animated with voices. (Wai~ I loved Oz@Minagawa Junko. That's just a perfect casting~ ^O^)

...oh and,

Chibi Gilbert kawaiiyo!! ^O^
Yes, he was darn adorable. I'm sure most people are looking forward to see Gilbert 10 years after.

On a site note here, I probably won't do much of the episode reviews any more but I might blog Sengoku Basara(Yukimura LOL) and this once in a while if something I should mention comes up. Oh and I also watched the first episode of Full Metal Alchemist 2 today, which was a pretty darn good start. (but I won't blog that since 20+ other bloggers are covering it)

Sengoku Basara Ep 1

(Spoilers, silly comments & fangirlisms included)

It's been a while since I did reviews on first impression of new animes. Anyway I just felt like doing it lately. Well, Sengoku Basara turns out to be way more wacky than what I expected from reading the manga. I find it totally hilarious mostly due to Yukimura(omg this guy is a total win). Overall I really like this series and am looking forward to see more.

Guys! When you guys are fighting, think of others too! Don't cause random nature disasters to disturb others. Geez~

...and the 2 fools fought until the dawn breaks. (Buhahaha I LOL'd so bad during this scene in promo) ...and Yukimura, stop fighting and go write poems.

Dokuganryuu

What is this burning passion?
What is this kickass strength?
I never felt this kind of helluva excitement before
That is the feeling of that f*cking guy I wanna defeat

By Yukimura

(Please don't take it seriously but that's roughly based on what he said after the battle ended -_^;)

I'm sure Yukimura said the word "oyakata-sama" close to 20 times in just this episode alone. No punching sensei! Yukimura!

Yes, while Yukimura remains the funniest character in this series, Masamune and Sasuke are some of the coolest characters here. Masamune-sama gakkoiiyo Masamune-sama! (He reminds me of good ol' Hijikata Toushirou from Gintama = Same voice actor btw) ...and Sasuke is so cool! (better than the other character from a more well-known series, who shares the same first name... lol)

Oh and here's more of Yukimura's oyakata-sama madness. (From Sengoku Basara X game)
